College students carry a heavy load, and we don’t just mean your backpacks. Classes, work, family – all of these responsibilities can make it tough to finish out the semester. As you head toward the end of the semester, the additional weight of exams, projects, and registration deadlines adds to the pressure.
Many students make the right choice to look for mental health counseling services. This is a great opportunity to talk with someone who can support you through a tough period, offering resources and advice to help you learn and grow.
If you need to talk to someone or need other mental health resources, Austin Community College (ACC) has counseling services that can help. Here’s how to get what you need.
Mental Health Access at ACC
ACC’s Mental Health Counseling office is your home base for counseling and other support. It is part of ACC’s C.A.R.E. Network (Community Assistance, Resources and Empowerment).
Students can request to make appointments to meet in person or virtually for confidential counseling.
More Programs for Students
ACC has two new programs in collaboration with other mental health providers.
- TimelyCare provides round-the-clock access to a helpline, scheduled counseling, medical care, and more.
- ACC partners with The Amplify Center, a service of UT Health Austin and the Dell Medical School, to offer ACC students mental health services, including how to access services, virtually and in person.
The C.A.R.E. Network
Mental health is just one part of a student’s overall health and well-being. Food, housing, child care, and financial support – all of these essential needs are vital to your success. The C.A.R.E. Network helps students access resources and connect them with the people and services that can support them the best.
To access support, fill out the Scheduling Form to be connected with services.
Student Support Resources at ACC
Besides mental health resources, ACC has many student support programs that help you finish your semester on a positive note. From our food pantries to scholarship application help, here are resources that can help you right now and for your future plans.
Current students can find support by going to Student Support. Depending on what you need, you can access academic help, financial resources, basic needs assistance, and tech support.
Basic Needs Resources
ACC’s Riverbat Bites food pantries, part of the C.A.R.E. Network, offer groceries and personal care items such as wipes, diapers, and menstrual products. You can drop by to get what you need to stay focused and succeed. There’s a pantry on every campus. Simply check in with your ACC student ID.
Academic Resources
You can find free academic resources such as tutoring, library services such as study guides, and links to your area of study advisor so you can get guidance on your semester and degree goals. What’s not listed: talk to your professor. Go to office hours and get individual help. They are always happy to help their students.
Financial Resources
For many students, money is tight. An unexpected expense, car repair, or other financial hit can make it hard to finish the semester. ACC offers money management education, scholarship application help, and child care scholarships for parenting students. In some cases, ACC’s Student Emergency Fund can help with one-time bills, if students work with their C.A.R.E. Coordinators through ACC’s C.A.R.E. Network Center. Take advantage of these financial resources because they can help before you get into a bind.
Technical Resources
ACC offers technical support, whether you are having trouble connecting to WiFi on campus or need to borrow tech for distance learning. Explore all of these resources and bookmark them so you don’t have to buy expensive technology or get stuck using unreliable devices.
Start Strong, Stay Strong
The most important thing to remember is this: Austin Community College has a variety of resources that are here for you.
Some support is help that you can use right away, like counseling, food, and emergency funds. Other resources help you in the long term, like housing, financial aid, and child care.
Whatever you need to get you to the finish line, ACC can help. Explore these resources and reach out. We’re here to support you so you finish the semester strong.
